SORT Yesterday Buy-Back Program (Beta)

SORT Yesterday Buy-Back Program (Beta)

We put our best efforts into curating the objects in our shop and believe they are well designed and made to last. Our new buy-back program is meant to keep those carefully selected items in circulation, even once you no longer have room for them in your space.

How to Trade in Your SORT Items

  1. Ensure the used object you are submitting was purchased at SORT and is considered eligible for this program. Please see below for a list of eligible & ineligible objects.

  2. For this Beta period, used object submissions are processed via email only. Please email with a photos of the SORT-purchased object and a short description about the condition. Please provide complete and accurate information as store credit will only be given once the item is approved in-store.

  3. If the object is eligible and in acceptable condition, we will email you back within 3-5 business days.

  4. We will arrange a time for you to drop the object/s off at our shop. If the item’s condition is consistent with the emailed description, we will give you a store gift card.

  5. We clean and resell it back to our SORT community, via our SORT Yesterday page, hoping to find a new home for the beloved object.

1. Why is SORT doing this?
While we understand that there’s no perfect solution to the issue of global waste management, we hope this program inspires our customers to more easily and confidently recirculate their eligible purchases, keeping them out of landfills and simultaneously benefitting our community. Sadly, 1 in 2 people throw their used objects straight into the trash, and this linear flow that consumer objects take from retailer to landfill is exactly what we hope to avoid. As we explore this new initiative, we hope to move one step closer toward sustainable living via our “circular” marketplace.

2. What can I trade-in? (Eligibility)
You can trade in any eligible product you have previously purchased at SORT, given it is in reuasable/resellable condition. Please see below for a list of eligible & ineligible objects.

Our team reviews all submissions and has the right to approve or deny any submission.

3. How and when do I receive the gift card payment?
Objects that are eligible for trade in will be worth, at a minimum, 20% of its original value back in a SORT gift card. Once the object is assessed and conditionally approved over email, we will reply with the estimated buy-back value. If you choose to bring the item in and it accurately matches the emailed photos + description, we will issue you a SORT gift card with the quoted value.

4. Can I ship you my trade-in items?
Since a buy-back program is still a new concept especially for small retail shop like us, we are launching it as a beta version. Our beta stage is only accepting items locally, i.e. from customers who can drop their items off at our physical shop.

If the program is successful, we will definitely consider accepting shipped items.

5. Why didn’t I receive a response to my submission?
If you don’t receive a response within 3-5 business days, your submission has been denied. This can be for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:

  • The product is not eligible for this program (see Eligibility table above)
  • The product was not purchased from our store
  • The product is not in resellable/reusable condition

Our team has the right to approve or deny any submission. Thank you for your understanding.

6. What if I’m not happy with the quoted value of my item submission?
We determine the buy-back value through careful consideration of the item’s condition and resale value. As a small business trying out a new concept, we still need to consider the overhead costs of buying back an already sold object and selling it back to our community. If you’re not happy with a quoted value, we recommend recirculating the object in an alternative way, either by selling it on a different marketplace or gifting it to a loved one.

7. To submit my item(s), do I need to provide proof or purchase from SORT?
During this beta stage, we don’t expect you to have a record of the receipt. We will operate on an honour system. However, we may introduce a proof of purchase requirement when the program is in full effect.
