Artek Aalto Stool 60 — Colour Seat

Alvar Aalto was fascinated by wood, exploring its possibilities, testing limits, and discovering what modern production methods could be achieved. The stackable Stool 60 (est. 1933) is a result of this and best known for Aalto’s invention for bending solid wood creating the famous ‘L’ shaped leg. Referred to by Aalto as "the little sister of the architectural column."

 

The Stool 60 received the coveted Good Design Long Life Design Award in Japan in 2019. Thanks to its geometry and elemental nature, the 42 production steps that happen to manufacture one stool is a process that has been honed through time.
