Kousaido Japanese Incense — Birch (Ika-Denshin series)

Kousaido has been blending incense in Kyoto since 1994. Their Ika-Denshin series, roughly "expressing the heart through flowers," is a small set of seasonal scents built around a single plant each.

Birch (shirakaba in Japanese) is fresh and woodsy, closer to a walk through a stand of white birch than a sweet floral. Each small box holds 20 incense sticks along with a simple aluminium holder, so there's nothing else to buy before lighting the first one. Made in Japan from tabu powder and sandalwood, with no burning accelerants added.
