The Word of Design by Masahiro Mori (Japanese only)
Masahiro Mori (1927–2005), who worked with Kyushu’s Hakusan Pottery, was a pioneering figure in Japanese ceramics and is regarded as a master of product design alongside Sori Yanagi (1915–2011). His iconic G-type soy sauce jug, first released in 1958, remains a long-selling classic still found in both restaurants and homes. In recent years, Mori’s work has gained renewed popularity, particularly through select shops and the Japanese tableware series he created for MUJI beginning in 2004.
This book highlights Mori’s philosophy and way of life, presenting 85 candid reflections on design, craft, daily living, and society. It also features interviews with Hakusan Pottery staff, business partners, and former students, offering a vivid portrait of his influence. Together, these perspectives reveal the depth of Mori’s vision and his lifelong pursuit of timeless, universal design.
