Imabari towels come from Imabari, a city on Japan's Shikoku island that's been the country's towel-making centre for over 120 years and today produces most of Japan's domestic towel supply. Towels carrying the official Imabari mark have to pass a stricter absorbency test than the national standard — sinking within five seconds instead of sixty — so the label is a real marker of quality, not just a place name.

At approximately 272 grams, this bath towel is noticeably thicker and heavier than the all-seasons version, making it the one to reach for once the weather turns cooler. It's spun using a sweet-twist (low-twist) yarn, which loosens the fiber structure for a softer, plusher feel and a subtle sheen — the trade-off is it dries a little slower and wears slightly less hard than a tightly-twisted yarn.
